El calor húmedo y unos cuantos
temblorcitos no detuvieron a las estrellas, quienes se reunieron por una buena
causa en el almuerzo anual organizado por la Hollywood Foreign Press Association
(HFPA). El evento se llevó a cabo en el Beverly Hills Hotel y la HFPA donó algo
del dinero que obtiene de los Globos de Oro. La donación fue a manera de becas
que representaron un monto de más de $1.2 millones de dólares. El recinto
retumbaba con la muy ruidosa plática de estrellas entre las que se encontraban
Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, John Travolta, Kerry
Washington, Christina Hendricks, Jack Black, y otros que aceptaron los
cheques a nombre de los muy merecidos ganadores. Al aceptar una beca de $40,000
a nombre de la American Cinemateque, Don Johnson miró a todos desde el
escenario y bromeó: “Solía emborracharme con algunos de ustedes, pero eso fue
hace mucho tiempo”. Dustin Hoffman recibió becas por un total de $85,000 a nombre
de las proyecciones organizadas por LACMA/Film Independent, de LA Conservancy y
del acervo UC Berkeley Pacific Film Archive. Dustin arrancó las risas más
sonoras del evento cuando anuncio: “Yo sólo estoy aquí para que me nominen”.
Todos se divirtieron, pero el
asunto que los reunió es algo serio: los muy 
necesitados fondos económicos que
se repartieron entre 40 fundaciones y escuelas relacionadas con el cine, que
van de prestigiados proyectos de restauración fílmica a programas educativos
urbanos e internacionales.
Steamy hot weather and a few little earthquakes didn’t stop the stars from gathering for a good cause, when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association held their annual luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel to donate some of that money they make from the Golden Globes – presenting grants for more than $1.2 million. The room was abuzz with high octane schmoozing, with stars including Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, John Travolta, Kerry Washington, Christina Hendricks, Jack Black and others on hand to accept checks on behalf of the various worthy recipients. Don Johnson, accepting the $40,000 grant on behalf of the American Cinematheque, looked out from the stage and dead-panned, “I used to get drunk with some of you but that was a long time ago.” Dustin Hoffman received grants totaling $85,00 on behalf of LACMA/Film Independent film screenings, the LA Conservancy and UC Berkeley Pacific Film Archive, but got the biggest laugh of the afternoon when he announced, “I’m just here to get nominated.”
Everyone had a good time, but the business at hand was serious, with much-needed funds going to 40 film and arts related schools and foundations, from prestigious film restoration projects to international and inner city educational programs.
