Tengo tres hijos. He estado casado por siete años. Me encanta mi trabajo.

ARGO Fuck
yourself! (You’ll know why it’s funny when you see the movie…)

OK, full disclosure, ARGO –
a smart, funny, timely political thriller – is my favorite movie so far this
year. So having seen the film 2 times already, I was excited when the
invitation came from Ben Affleck to attend the private after party for
the film’s Hollywood premiere. Here is what the director-star has to say about where he is in his life these days…

«When did
I hear about Argo? I did not know anything about this mission. I just knew
about the hostage crisis.
But when I got the script from George (Clooney) and Grant (Heslov) and cracked
it open, I thought this is insane, this can’t be true. And then I went on
the
internet
and looked it up and it was really a true story. And I called George and Grant
and said, I gotta do this movie.
They were in the middle of making Ides of March. And two months later I was
prepping the movie.

On scope
and scale, it was much bigger than anything I’d ever done. The hostage takeover, those protesters. And I
don’t like digital people. I don’t think that they look good. So I wanted to use all real people and all
real extras. So thousands of extras. And then it turned out that in Turkey, the only people that were
coming down to  be extras were senior citizens. And this was supposed to be a
student revolution. So I couldn’t
shoot too closely, but what are you going to do when 2000 70-year-olds show up?
You’re kind of stuck with them. So
we had some problems just in terms of size, in terms of being in Istanbul and
shooting in all the real places in DC. The real CIA. The real State Department.
And this old Hollywood stuff, using a lot of visual effects to make it feel
more period, it just was much broader. And all the while having to keep the
budget down. It was a challenge.

I’m
really lucky. I have some really wonderful friends. I’ve gotten to know Grant
and George ev en better on
this movie. I have never met anybody as smart about Hollywood as George
Clooney. And Matt (Damon) lives down the street from me. So now I see him all
the time. We bring the kids
over back and forth. It’s like a fantasy-ville. A nice life. And a lot of
friends who don’t work in
the movie business, thank god, otherwise the conversations would get very boring. But I’m lucky.
I’ve got a good life. I’ve got three kids. I’ve been married for 7 years. I just turned 40. I
finally feel like, you know, for better or worse, a grownup.
I look at my next ten years and I believe
these can be the best ten years of my life. I feel great about my work. Even more so, I feel like I have a good chance. It’s still
a bet you can still miss. But I still feel really good about where I am and how hard I’m
working and what I’m able to bring to it. And I feel even better about having a family and
watching children grow up.

So I’m
really looking forward to
what comes next. I’ve actually never felt better in my whole life. I know that’s a bit of a cliché. Men
are
lucky. 40 is a time when we come into sort
of our prime, you know, before we lose our wits.»
