El
promocional dice: “You’re invited to the Affair of the Year” (“Están invitados

No

Men
es que habrá más vampiros

“You’re invited to the Affair of the Year” says the promo, a
teaser trailer made up of 6 black and white stills. The words are provocative – is the “affair” the highly anticipated return of the series? Or
could it be that the “affair” is Don Draper’s? After all, that end of  Season 5 cliffhanger left us wondering…

Notoriously secretive, creator Matt Weiner has schooled his
cast well – so visiting the set in downtown Los Angeles doesn’t offer up any
better clues, other than some apparent hairstyle changes indicating a jump
forward in time. (Megan’s teased bouffant ‘do’, Pete Campbell’s sideburns.) So
we know Jon Hamm won’t reveal much about Don Draper’s journey, but we have t
ask. What happens when someone gets everything they think will make them happy?

“It was a very interesting choice of words that they left us
with, wasn’t it?” says Hamm. “This is why Matt is rightfully rewarded as an
excellent writer. It wasn’t, Are you single? It wasn’t, Are you with someone?
The phrase was, Are you alone? – which can mean a thousand different things and
the question was never answered. Well, I think if you look back through the
show Don Draper has pretty much always been ruled by the women in his life whether
he likes it or not.”

C’mon, can’t you even give us a tidbit?

“Yeah, my usual go-to when everybody asks me what’s new for this
season of MAD MEN is I say that there’s going to be way more vampires
. But I feel
like that joke is now getting so old because vampires aren’t even that
important anymore. That’s the cycle of why pop culture is ever regenerating. We’ve
had it on our show. We were the new big thing 7, 8 years ago that everyone was
talking about and inevitably the new big thing keeps winding around. There’s
another new big thing whether it’s HOMELAND or whether it’s THE WALKING DEAD or
whatever it is – it is part and parcel with the cyclical nature of not only
television but popular culture. So our challenge is to stay relevant and to
hopefully create a world with characters that are rich enough, that do change, that
do make people want to continue to tune in. It’s certainly what keeps me
excited about the show and my role.”

Well I have to admit I can’t wait. What about you, will you be watching?
