Carey Mulligan & A Night to Remember!

¡Qué buena e inesperada noche! El
público, quien agotó por completo las entradas, incluía a gente como Jesse
Eisenberg, Glenn Close, Paul Rudd y Julianne Moore. Todos metidos en un salón
íntimo en Nueva York por motivo del concierto de caridad “Another Day, Another
Time”, el cual celebra la música de la nueva película de los Coen Inside Llewyn Davis, que tuvo su
premiere la noche anterior en el New York Film Festival. La película ganó el
Gran premio del jurado en el Festival de Cannes y cuenta la historia de un
joven (Oscar Isaac) que la quiere hacer como cantante de folk en los 60.
Anoche, para celebrar aquella música, Isaac tomó el escenario con su coestrella,
Carey Mulligan y toda una lista de gente importante de la música. Esos
incluyeron a Marcus Mumford (quien está casado con Mulligan), Jack White, Patti
Smith, Joan Baez, Punch Brothers Brothers, Lake Street Dive, Secret Sisters,
los Avett Brothers, el líder de The Decemberists Colin Meloy y el afamado
productor T-Bone Burnett. El maestro de ceremonias, John Goodman (quien hizo
chistes tontos como su personaje en la película) le informó al público que su
coestrella, Justin Timberlake, no podía estar aquí pero que su “reemplazo”
cantaría en su lugar y así introdujo a Elvis Costello. Él bromeó “El cielo sabe
que cuando uno piensa en Justin, inmediatamente piensa en mí”.

Pero la gran sorpresa de la noche, y del
filme, es la maravillosa voz de Oscar Isaac. “Cuando trabajamos en Drive”, dice Mulligan, “él habló un poco
sobre la cantada y yo sabía que tocaba la guitarra, pero no tenía idea de a qué
nivel. El primer día de rodaje lo vi cantar “Hang Me” y quedé pasmada. Amo ver
esta película porque hay muchas interpretaciones de canciones completas y nunca
cortan para alejarse. Son voces en vivo y su voz en increíble. Realmente suena
como si fuera de aquella época. Nueva York en los 60 fue una época
extraordinaria. Nos dejaron un legado musical maravilloso y disfruté mucho
meterme a ese mundo. Amé la comunidad que se armó en Greenwich Village y cómo
las vidas de todos esos artistas se mezclaron y entre todos se levantaban y
ayudaban de diferentes formas. También me gustó mucho conocer más sobre esa
música porque es algo de lo que no sabía mucho y es hermosa”. El soundtrack
estará disponible el 12 de noviembre.

What a great and unexpected night! The sold-out audience included the likes of Jesse
Eisenberg, Glenn Close, Paul Rudd and Julianne Moore – all packed into the intimate New York City Town Hall for a rousing benefit concert, “Another Day, Another
Time” celebrating the music of the new Coen Brothers movie, INSIDE LLEWYN
DAVIS, which premiered the night before at the New York Film Festival. The film, which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s
Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a young man (Oscar Isaac) trying to
make it as a folk singer in the 1960s. And last night in a celebration of that music, Isaac took the stage with co-star Carey
Mulligan and a who’s who of the music business, including Marcus Mumford (who’s married
to Mulligan), Jack White, Patti Smith, Joan Baez, Punch Brothers, Lake Street
Dive, Secret Sisters, the Avett Brothers, Decemberist’s frontman Colin Meloy
and famed music producer T-Bone Burnett. Master of ceremonies John Goodman (doing lame jokes
in character from the movie) informed the crowd that co-star Justin Timberlake
couldn’t be here but Timberlake’s ‘understudy’ would perform instead, then
introduced Elvis Costello – who joked, «Heaven knows when you think
Justin, you think of me.»

But the real surprise of the night – and of the film – is
the amazing voice of actor Oscar Isaac. “When we worked together on DRIVE,”
says Mulligan, “he talked a bit about singing and I knew that he could play the
guitar but I had no idea to what level. And then the first day of filming I
watched him sing Hang Me and I was completely blown away. I love watching the
film because you have all these performances and they play the song through
from beginning to end and they don’t cut away. There’s no sort of editing. It’s just live vocals and his voice is breath-taking. And it really harkens back to that era of music –  New
York in the ’60s was kind of an extraordinary time. It’s left us with this
amazing legacy of music so I loved getting to sort of immerse in that world a
bit. I loved the small community that existed in Greenwich Village and how all
of those artists’ lives kind of crossed over with each other and they all kind
of lifted each other up and pushed each other down in different ways. And I
loved getting to know more of that music from that time because it wasn’t
something I knew a huge amount about and it’s beautiful.”  The soundtrack is available on November 12.
