La vida simple de Shailene Woodley

“No ha cambiado mucho mi vida. Estoy más ocupada, pero más allá de eso, mi estilo de vida es el mismo, mis amigos son los mismos. Me siento muy afortunada y emocionada de estar en este viaje”, dice la estrella de Divergente La serie Insurgente, Shailene Woodley. Luego de actuar junto a George Clooney en Los descendientes, y de estelarizar la cinta independiente de bajo presupuesto Bajo la misma estrella (la cual costó $16 mdd y recaudó más de $300,000,000 millones alrededor del mundo) y ahora convertida en la joven estrella de acción más cool en la serie Divergente, es difícil imaginar que el éxito no le haya afectado a esta chica de Simi Valley. Pero no lo ha hecho.

“Llevo una vida muy sencilla porque así se siente satisfecha mi alma”, insiste. “Tengo un estilo de vida muy simple. Claro que ahora viajo mucho más, pero fuera de eso, mi vida personal es la misma. Me hacen feliz las cosas pequeñas de la vida, así que no me veo comprando un auto carísimo de lujo, no creo que eso me haga sentir exitosa o como que logré algo en la vida. Para mí, la verdad es que lo que más me satisface es estar 2 horas comiendo con mi mejor amiga. Siento que lograr eso es una victoria. Es algo digno de celebración. O también el poder ir a casa con mis papás y quedarme ahí 3 días… o cosas más chicas, como meterme a la tina de baño un rato”, dice riendo. “Hay veces en que esas cosas pequeñitas son las que más impacto tienen porque tienes la oportunidad de encontrar tu centro. Cuando tienes experiencias así, hay que disfrutarlas y divertirte en lugar de sentirte estresada o molesta”.

¿Qué consejos le daría a los adolescentes que apenas se están encontrando? “Lo que yo les diría es que tienen que ser ellos mismos. Hay millones de personas allá afuera, pero sólo tú eres tú. Es importante creer en uno mismo. Creo que ese es el mejor consejo que le puedo dar a alguien desde mi experiencia personal. Cuando cumplí 18 años me volví mi mejor amiga. Emprendí un viaje de autoconocimiento y de averiguar qué quería. Haciendo eso encontré mucha felicidad y muchas formas de sentirme centrada. Al conocerme completamente dejé de pensar sólo en mí al estar con otra gente y así puedo enfocarme en ellos. Creo que cuando uno es joven, se pasa mucho tiempo pensando en uno mismo y preocupados por lo que los demás piensan y eso evita que estés presente con otros. Si te enfocas en llegar a tu propio sistema de raíces, entonces podrás hacer más en el mundo. Estar más presente y llevar una vida más plena”. 

La actriz de 23 años está a punto de encarnar a Lindsay Mills, la novia de Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) en el drama político de Oliver Stone, Snowden.

“Life hasn’t really changed at all. I am much busier, but
other than that, my lifestyle is the same, my friends are the same. I feel
really lucky and so excited to be on this ride,” says Insurgent star Shailene
Woodley.  From co-starring with George
Clooney in The Descendants to the low budget young adult hit The Fault In Our
Stars (cost $16mil. and made more than $300,000,000 worldwide) to becoming the
coolest young action hero in the Divergent series – its hard to imagine that
this Simi Valley girl could remain unaffected by so much success and fame. But
she has.

“I live a very simple life because that’s the life that
satisfies my soul,” she insists. “And I live a very simple lifestyle. Yes I
have been traveling more, but apart from that, my personal life hasn’t changed.
The small things in life make me happy, so splurging on a big, fancy new car
isn’t something that’s going to make me feel successful or make me feel like I
have completed something in life. For me it’s about, honestly right now just
because I am so busy, having a two hour lunch with a best friend. That is a
victory, that is something to celebrate. Or being able to go home and be with
my family for three days or small things, taking a bath. (laughs) Sometimes
it’s the smallest things that really make the biggest impact because you are
able to center yourself and when you are in experiences like this, enjoy them
and have fun with them versus feeling stressed or frazzled or all over the
place.”   

What advise would she give teenager fans out there, just
beginning to find themselves? “What I would tell teenagers out there is that you
have got to do you, because there are a thousand others out there, but there is
no one who is like you. And you have got to believe in yourself. I think the best
advice I can give to any teenager from personal experience is when I was 18 I
became my own best friend in a way and I went on a quest to get to know me and
figure out who I was, and what I wanted. And in that, I found a lot of
happiness and I found a lot of ways to be centered, because by knowing myself
so fully, I wasn’t thinking about myself when I was looking at you and I was
able to really experience you. And I think often times when you are young, you
are so in your head about yourself and worrying about the judgments of others, that
you are not actually able to be present with anyone else because you are so
stuck in your own mind. And so if you focus on achieving your own personal
rooted system, then you are able to do more work in the world. And be more
present, and live a more fulfilled life.”

The 23-year-old actress will next be seen playing Lindsay
Mills, the real-life girlfriend of Edward Snowden, opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in Oliver Stone’s political drama
