La memoria más chistosa de Charlize Theron en Cannes
La estrella de Mad Max Furia en el camino recuerda un problema de vestuario que tuvo en la alfombre roja...
Después de la proyección de mi nueva película favorita (en serio), la increíble Mad Max Furia en el camino de George Miller, tuve chance de pasar un rato con Charlize Theron justo antes de que saliera hacia Cannes con su coestrella, Tom Hardy. «He tenido suerte porque he podido ir varias veces, pero ahora voy muy rápido. Tengo que regresar a un evento y luego a seguir filmando. Pero sí voy a poder llevar a mi familia y me emociona compartir eso con ellos. Ha sido un honor llevarle esta película al mundo. Ha sido un camino largo y el poder al fin caminar por esa alfombra roja y subir esas escaleras de miedo… sí, estoy emocionada».
Siempre me sorprendo de lo aterrizada que es Charlize, aún cuando luce intocablemente elegante en aquellos anuncios de Dior. En persona, sin embargo, es muy ‘real’ y se bota de risa cuando empezamos a hablar de Cannes. «Me pasó una cosa horrible un día. Creo que fue en la ceremonia de clausura. Yo traía un vestido Dior hermoso, pero muy largo. No me podía ver los pies y me habían enviado unos zapatos muy complejos que se enredaban en mis tobillos como serpientes, pero que no tenían nada con qué amarrarse. Cuando llegas a las escaleras, están todos los fotógrafos con flashes y gritándote. De repente, me di cuenta de que ya era mi turno y noté que las serpientes estaban amarradas entre sí… esencialmente tenía los pies atados juntos. No me podía mover. Y así me quedé, intentando desatarme, con la mirada perdida concentrada en mis tobillos, y con todos los fotógrafos ahí. Lo más avergonzantte de todo fue que llegó un punto en el que ya todos se me quedaron viendo con cara de ‘okay, ya te puedes ir. Ahí viene Helen Mirren, sigue caminando’. Y yo no me podía mover. Ya al final cuando por fin pude, subí las escaleras y vi que un fotógrafo se quedó sacudiendo la cabeza como pensando, ‘uy, qué diva’. ¡Así que esta vez llevaré zapatos buenos!’.
Es un buen consejo si alguna vez tienes que caminar por una alfombra roja en Cannes, que ya comienza mañana y seguirá hasta el 24 de mayo.

After the screening of my seriously favorite new movie, George Miller’s stunning Mad Max Fury Road, I was lucky to spend some time with Charlize Theron, on her way with the film to the Cannes Film Festival with co-star Tom Hardy. “I have been lucky
enough to go a few times but this one’s going to be a really quick trip for me,
just because I leave right after for an event and then to go and finish a movie
actually. But I am bringing my family and I am really excited about being able
to share a little bit of the Cannes experience with them. And it’s a really
nice honor to be able to finally take this movie and release it to the world. It’s
been a long journey and finally to be able to walk down a red carpet and have
it be that red carpet, and those
tremendously frightening stairs that I will hopefully not trip on, yeah, I’m really
excited.”
It always surprises me how down to earth Charlize is, when
she seems so flawlessly and untouchably elegant in those Dior ads. But in person she is always delightfully ‘real’ and when the conversation
turns to the glamour of Cannes, she laughs out loud. “I had a terrifying thing
happen to me once. I guess it was the closing ceremonies and I wore a beautiful
Dior dress and it was long, so you couldn’t see my feet, but they had sent me
these really beautiful intricate shoes that were like a snake kind of wrapping
around my ankle, but there was no tie to it, so it was just kind of open. And
when you get before the stairs, there are all the photographers taking photos,
flashes flashing, calling your name. And when I knew I was about to approach,
as I was trying to move, I realized that I couldn’t move and that one of the
snakes had hooked into the other snake, and my ankles were basically tied
together. And so I couldn’t move. And so the photographers just kept taking
photographs and the whole time I am kind of cross-eyed, like glazed over, as I
am trying to get my ankle around the other ankle to loosen the shoe up. And the
most embarrassing part about that, it took so long that they were like okay,
keep moving, Helen Mirren is showing up, like please keep walking. And I was like,
oh my God, I can’t move, I don’t know how to do it! And then finally, I
unlocked the snakes and went upstairs and by the time I got upstairs, I saw one
photographer just shaking his head like what a diva. So (laughing) I will be
wearing good shoes this time around!” A good thing to remember if you’re ever walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival – which by the way, starts tomorrow and runs through May 24th.
