George Clooney…

———————————-

I’ve been getting to know George Clooney for almost as long as I’ve been at Cine Premiere now – and next month will be the magazine’s 250th issue?  Wow. So I met George’s publicist Stan Rosenfield in traffic school, back before you could do traffic school online. And that’s how I met George, so we have a little bit of history, and he’s a pretty straight shooter. So as we’re sitting down to talk about his latest movie, Tomorrowland, I cut to the chase and ask him if there’s any truth in this new flurry of rumors about his political aspirations. And he laughs out loud.

«I know, I know,» he laughs. «Every week there’s another story, “George is going to run for Governor” or someone will write that that’s the reason I got married, because it will look better for my political campaign – as if  marrying someone
with Allah in the last name, (laughing) is good for the political spectrum. But I will tell you honestly, I am friends with a lot of politicians who I like and
respect very much and I think the world of and I think their life is very
difficult and I don’t envy a moment of it. And I truly feel as if I don’t have
to make compromises in the world I work in and if I want to take up a cause and
fight for it, I can do that without having to say, ‘Well I can’t tick off this guy
because he’s raised half a million dollars for my political campaign.’ I
don’t have any of those shackles on me. So I feel that for me, I can be much
more effective in the things I want to work on without being tied to politics
at all. And it’s so polarized and so difficult to get anything in Government
now, whether you agree with the President or his policies, there’s no
taking away from the idea that he is a good man, he’s a smart man. And I happen
to agree with his politics, but whether you do or not, right now, he’s paainted as a
socialist monster who wants to destroy America? Really? Do you honestly really
believe that? So I just find politics and I are better served separate.»
