La evolución de Vince Vaughn

Quizá sea la evolución natural de hacerse más grande. Después de todo, él cumplió 45 este año, pero sea lo que sea, Vince Vaughn luce diferente. Es difícil explicar, pero cuando nos sentamos a platicar sobre la nueva temporada de True Detective, ya se parece poco a su personaje de Swingers y se asemeja más a un señor. Aunque en realidad no hablamos mucho de eso, pues al igual que sucedió con Colin Farrell, hay poco que pueda decir que no sea considerado spoiler. Definitivamente hay mucha madurez aquí.

«Vamos a hablar de este Vince Vaughn más serio y sofisticado», le digo.

A lo que él responde, «Te diré una historia algo curiosa. Hace como cinco años noté algunas canas en mi cabello y sí me asusté un poco. Dije, ‘Dios, ya tengo canas. Debería pintarme el pelo, no estoy acostumbrado a esto’. Y mi mamá me dijo, ‘Hay un gran producto para eso que se llama Just For Men. Lo deberíamos comprar para que te lo pongas’. Y le dije, ‘Okay, vamos. No quiero verme así’. Así que me lo puse con una esponja y supongo que me lo dejé mucho tiempo. Digo, seguramente el producto es muy bueno, pero parecía Adam Ant. Mi cabello estaba morado. Y yo tenía que dar unas entrevistas en Nueva York y cuando llegué, todos me vieron horrorizados. Así que tuve que encontrar a alguien que pudiera bajarle tantito al tono, porque estaba muy saturado. De ahí el proceso fue un poco como rasparle hasta que se viera algo natural. Y así me curé. Ya no he vuelto a hacerle nada ni nada. Sí es muy fuerte esa primera impresión de verte una cana. Eso es todo lo que tengo que decir sobre la edad».

Maybe it’s just the natural evolution of getting older –
after all he turned 45 this year, but Vince Vaughn seems different this time, hard to explain but more of a man and less of that Swingers-era hipster – when we sit down to talk
about this new True Detective Season Two. Well, not exactly talk about – much
like his co-star Colin Farrell, there’s not much he can say that’s not a
spoiler. But there definitely is a new maturity here. 

“So then, let’s talk about this new, dapper looking, more
serious Vince Vaughn,” I say.  And he responds, “I will tell you kind of a funny story. I
first noticed that my hair was starting to gray and it kind of freaked me out,
maybe five years ago, when I was around 40. So I said, God my hair is graying,
maybe I should dye my hair, I am not used to this. And my mom said ‘Oh yeah,
there’s this great product that’s really good for that and it’s called Just For
Men.’ And she said, ‘We should get that and put it in your hair, that’s what we
should do.’ And I said, ‘OK let’s get this Just For Men and let’s try it, I
don’t want to look like this.’ So we sponged it on and I guess we left it on
too long. I am sure the product is fine, but I looked like fucking Adam Ant. I
mean, my hair was purple by the time it came out. And I had to go do press for
something in New York, and I show up and they were kind of horrified, so then I
had to find a guy who really knew what he was doing to tone it down, because
like I said, the color was really  saturated.
But then I had to go through a process where he kind of scraped it out to kind of
make it look more natural or whatever. That kind of cured me of it. And I
haven’t done anything or dyed it since then. But I appreciate that feeling when
it first hits you, that first gray hair, where it first comes upon you that it
definitely goes wow, this is happening yeah. And that’s all I have to say about
