Miles Teller: ¿Arrogante o Encantador?
La estrella de Los 4 Fantásticos se defiende de un artículo de Esquire.
El encabezado de la revista Esquire me llamó la atención: «Miles Teller es joven, talentoso y no le importa lo que pienses». Con un subtítulo que decía: «Nuestra última estrella de portada está en búsqueda de grandeza. A veces eso también involucra ser irritante.» Esto, pareciendo una controversia un poco tonta llamó mi interés, puede ser porque como periodista prefiero encontrarme con un actor con actitud, aunque sea una irritante, que uno que está extremadamente entrenado y sólo da respuestas predefinidas. Al menos no será aburrido.
Para el momento en el que localicé el artículo, los medios de comunicación ya estaban por todas partes, como moscas en la miel. Comentarios de Facebook culpando al publicista del actor por dejarlo hablar tan libremete en una entrevista, mientras otros actores, como sus co-estelares Kate Mara y Jamie Bell en Los 4 Fantásticos, lo defendían en Twitter.
Entonces a Teller, quien se ganó reconocimiento internacional gracias a su rol en Sundance con Whiplash, obviamente no le importa lo que piensen ¿Eso significa que será más cuidadoso para futuras entrevistas? ¿O será igual de arrogantemente encantador?(Y sí, sí lo es, pero también es inteligente). Y me hace preguntar ¿Cómo reaccionarían las estrellas jóvenes de antes a los locos e indiscretos medios que hay que enfrentar hoy?¿Cómo contestaría James Dean? ¿Las contestaría malhumorado? ¿Las contestaría siendo pretencioso? Es fácil mirar atrás y llamarlo la esencia de lo cool, pero por definición de Esquire, en esta época, hasta Dean también hubiera sido llamado arrogante. Sólo digo…

The Esquire cover headline caught my eye, “Miles Teller is
young, talented and doesn’t give a rat’s ass what you think,” with the
subtitle, “Our latest cover star is on a quest for greatness. Sometimes that
can involve a bit of dickishness too.” This seemingly silly little controversy
sparks my interest, perhaps because as a journalist I would always rather
encounter an actor with an attitude, even a ‘dickish’ one, than one who is
overly-coached and only gives canned responses. At least it won’t be boring.
By the time I track the article down, social media is already all over it, like flies on honey – Facebook
comments blaming the actor’s publicist for allowing Teller to speak so freely
in the interview, while other actors, such as Fantastic Four co-stars Kate Mara
and Jamie Bell, defending him on Twitter. Teller himself tweeted, “@esquire
couldn’t be more wrong. I don’t think there’s anything cool or entertaining
about being a dick or an asshole. Very misrepresenting”
So Teller, who earned international recognition for his role
in the Sundance hit Whiplash, obviously he does give a rat’s ass what we think.
Does that mean he’ll be more cautious with interviews in the future? Or will he
be his same charmingly arrogant self? (And yes, he kind of is…but he’s also smart.) It makes me
wonder, how would young stars from back in the day respond to the
kind of crazy relentlessly prying media that today’s young talent has to confront? How would James Dean answer questions? Would he be surly? A poser? It’s easy to look back and call him the essence of cool, but by Esquire definition, at the time, even Dean probably would have been called “dickish» too. Just sayin’… (photo: VeraAnderson)
