Bradley Cooper on Jen Lawrence essay

There seem to be a lot of silly questions being asked at
this press conference for Bradley Cooper about his new movie Burnt (Q: Which do
you think is better, good food or good sex? BC: “It’s the same, thank God it’s
the same.” Q: How was kissing Daniel Bruhl? BC: “Amazing. The Germans. Ah the Germans.”)
Cine Premiere is just as interested to hear what he has to say about the essay
written by his pal Jennifer Lawrence on the subject of gender wage gap in
Hollywood. After all, we can ask him about kissing Daniel Bruhl any old time…

When the essay hit the internet 2 days ago, “Why Do I Make
Less Than My Male Co-Stars?”, published in Lena Dunham’s online newsletter
Lenny, Cooper hadn’t had a chance to read it. “But I since have,” he says. “For
somebody to have that kind of notoriety and to have a soap box and a platform
to speak out is fantastic. Because it will make a difference and I think it will
not only make a difference for women, but for men like me who also can become
aware of it and can speak up and not just sit idle. But I think mainly, even
more than her, people like for example Amy Adams who was in American Hustle and
who worked every single day and got paid way less than anybody else – but
people don’t talk about that. I think by Jennifer speaking out, that can help
other actresses where the discrepancy is so huge and also in other professions.
It’s the same in sports, watch when they give the check out at the end of a
tennis tournament, and see the difference in that check when it’s a female
instead of a male. I think it’s time to talk about it obviously.”

For anyone rolling their eyes and thinking, What’s she
bitching about, she makes so much money – that’s not the point. If her presence
in a film sells more tickets, her worth should be equal to a male actor of the
same status. Other industry pals took to twitter to voice their support,
including Emma Watson (@EmWatson) “O Jennifer Lawrence I love you so. X”
followed by “I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion.”
And Jessica Chastain (@jes_chastain) Yessssssss! Get it girl xx)
