Brad Pitt y su turno al bat

 

Dice Pitt: “Aunque creo que el filme es sobre valores y en dónde colocamos nuestros propios valores, aquello que llamamos éxito o fracaso, cómo nos interpretamos a nosotros mismos… en este filme el no ser valorado se refiere a no obtener una oportunidad. Personalmente, he tenido la gran fortuna de recibir oportunidades. De lo que me he dado cuenta es de que ser poco valorado es, de hecho, una ventaja, porque te da la oportunidad de sorprender. Para mí, ése momento es delicioso”. 

 

Y, pensando fuera de la caja, ¿qué otros temas tiene el filme? “Pues ya sabes que intento vivir fuera de la caja… No quiero ponerme muy intenso, pero todo comenzó con haber sido criado en un ambiente religioso sobre el que basé una buena porción de mi juventud. Cuando finalmente alcancé el punto en que me cuestionaba ciertas cosas que no hacían sentido, tenía 20 años, y comencé a separarme de esas creencias. Recuerdo que fueron momentos bastante temibles."

 

"Esto se debió a que ya no estaba conectado a algo, nada me reconfortaba ni respondía preguntas como ¿De qué se trata todo? ¿La vida acaba, pero qué sucede después? ¿Qué sigue? ¿Qué hay? Ya sabes, preguntas de ese estilo. Antes tenía a la religión para apaciguar esos temores, pero de pronto no tenía nada con qué afrontarlos. ¿Pero ya me desvié, no? Cuando comienzo a hablar sobre religión me voy por un camino oscuro… Bueno, pues comenzó con eso."

 

"Luego, cuando comencé a recibir oportunidades en Hollywood, me empujaban a hacer cosas que no se sentían bien, como ser actor de sitcom cuando sabía que sería terrible. En resumidas cuentas, siempre supe que tenía que seguir mi propio camino. Intento mantenerme fuera de la caja. Digo, miren a mi familia. No somos convencionales, ¿o sí?”. 

 

 

 

Brad Pitt’s upcoming movie Moneyball is based on the true story of a baseball manager’s unorthodox decision to use computer-generated analysis to select undervalued players for his team. The subject might sound boring but having been lucky enough to see some early advance footage, I can tell you it looks great and anything but dull! 

 

“While I do see the film being about values,” says Pitt, “and what we place our values on, what we call success, what we call failure, how we interpret that for ourselves – in the case of this film being undervalued refers to not getting an opportunity. Personally I’ve had the great fortune of opportunity. And what I’ve found is that being undervalued is actually a plus at times because it gives you an opportunity to surprise. And that to me is the most delicious of moments.” 

 

What about another theme of the film, thinking outside of the box? “You know, I try to live outside the box,” he laughs. “I don’t want to get too heavy but it started with me growing up in this religious environment that I based a good portion of my youth on. And when I finally got to the point of starting to question some things that didn’t make sense to me, I probably started separating myself from those beliefs at age 20 – and I remember it being a really scary time. Because I wasn’t connected to anything anymore, as far as comfort, as far as What’s it all about?, Life is finite, is there anything after? What is there? What is after?"

 

"These kinds of questions, you know. Where religion had been a pacifier for those fears, suddenly I had nothing to answer them with. But I got off the question didn’t I? Whenever I get on the subject of religion I start drifting down a dark road. But it started with that. And when I first started getting opportunities out in Hollywood, they were always pushing me to do things that didn’t feel good to me, like become a sitcom actor, when I knew I’d be terrible at it. So the long answer is that I just always knew I had to follow my own path. I try to stay outside the box. I mean, look at my family. We’re way outside the box, aren’t we?”
