Daniel Radcliffe hace los movimientos correctos
Hay vida más allá de Hogwarts.
En un día húmedo y caliente en Manhattan, las multitudes de fans se formaron fuera del Teatro Al Hirschfield, así como lo habían hecho desde hace semanas, ansiosos de ver a Daniel Radcliffe. Quien diera vida Harry Potter aparece dando pirueta y media en la puesta escena de 50 aniversario del musical sesentero How To Succeed in Business.
El actor inglés se enfrascó en un maratón de ocho representaciones por semana desde marzo; sólo se perdió una sesión cuando viajó a Londres para la premiere de Harry Potter y las reliquias de la Muerte. Parte II.
Después del show, Daniel y yo platicamos tras bambalinas por un rato. Conversamos sobre sus seguidores, cuyos gritos podíamos escuchar fuera del inmueble. ¿Ya se acostumbró a esto? “No es algo a lo que particularmente te ajustes, jamás”, dice. “Siempre es algo que te hace sentir un poco raro. Sí, todo es muy surrealista. Es como si le estuviese sucediendo a alguien más. Después de un tiempo tiendes a casi no escucharlo”.
Ríe. “Porque además, pienso que si realmente me escucharas cantar, te prometo que no gritarías, ¡no hay nada de qué emocionarse!”. No importa qué tan humildes sean sus palabras: su voz sorprende y sus movimientos de baile son poco menos que inspiradores. Contrario a su debut en Broadway con Equus –una obra atrevida en la que apareció completamente desnudo–, Radcliffe se expone de una manera diferente, mostrando su corazón y su alma en el escenario, y demostrando, sin lugar a dudas, que hay vida después de Hogwarts.

On a blisteringly hot and humid night this week in Manhattan, crowds of fans lined the street outside the Al Hirschfield Theater, as they’ve been doing for weeks now, eager to catch a glimpse of Daniel Radcliffe, currently belting and high-kicking in the 50th anniversary revival of the 1960’s musical How To Succeed in Business.
The Harry Potter star has been doing a marathon of 8 shows a week since March, only missing one performance when he flew to London for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II.
Hanging out with him in front of the stage afterwards, we talked about the fans we could hear still screaming outside the theater. Has he gotten used to it? “It’s not something you ever get particularly adjusted to,” he says. “And its always something that makes you feel slightly awkward. Yeah, it’s all very surreal. It’s just like it’s happening to somebody else. After a while you tend to almost not hear it.”
He laughs. “Because also, I’m like, if you really hear me sing I promise you won’t be screaming, there’s nothing to get that excited about!” No matter how humble his words, his voice is impressive and the dancing downright awe-inspiring. And unlike his earlier Broadway debut in Equus – edgy and full-frontal – Radcliffe bares himself in a different way here, putting his heart and soul on that stage and proving without a doubt that there is life after Hogwarts.
