Espíritu decembrino en Hollywood

Ya estamos en esa época del año: el espíritu navideño está en el aire y Hollywood cobra vida con el buzz de la época de premiaciones. En el lenguaje de los estudios esto se traduce como “¡Hay que organizar una fiesta para promover nuestras películas!”. La semana comenzó con una reunión íntima para Atracción peligrosa (The Town): muy apropiadamente, se celebró en un viejo y majestuoso banco. ¿Pero qué tan íntimo puede ser un evento cuando hay unos 200 individuos hollywoodenses intentando acercarse a Ben Affleck? La noche siguiente, la primera parada fue la fiesta navideña que Showtime ofreció para todas sus estrellas: fue un evento con calor de hogar organizado en una mansión de una colonia llamada Hancock Park. Estuvo bien por su buena comida y ambiente cálido, pero honestamente teníamos prisa por llegar al evento glamoroso de la velada: la fiesta para El origen. Se celebró en el punto más alto del Sunset Strip, en una propiedad ultramoderna desde la que se aprecia todo los Ángeles. El evento, que se celebro dentro y fuera de la casa (¡la noche era fría, pero la chimenea ardía!) estaba repleta de gente bonita, incluyendo al hombre más asediado, Leonardo DiCaprio, quien estaba acompañado de su director, Christopher Nolan, quien, por cierto, desea que dejen de preguntarle lo que significa el final de la cinta.
 
Sin embargo, la pachanga navideña organizada por Fox en la tercera noche fue la más movida de la semana. Rodeada de personas en la azotea con alberca de un pequeño hotel boutique en Beverly Hills, Anne Hathaway bromeaba sobre su nuevo trabajo como conductora de los Oscares: “Alguien me preguntó recientemente qué había sido más difícil: ser anfitriona de Saturday Night Live o desnudarme para Love & Other Drugs. ¡Ahora pienso que lo de los Oscares me pondrá tan nerviosa como ser anfitriona de SNL desnuda!”. Danny Boyle habló de los primeros ensayos de su puesta en escena de Frankenstein, que se presentará en Londres. Yo, por mi parte, intenté tomarme otra autofoto con Darren Aronofsky. Trabajando arduamente en Hollywood… ha ha ha.

Tis the Season

Its that time of year – holiday spirit is in the air and Hollywood is alive with awards season buzz. And in studio-speak that means, Lets have a party to promote our movies! This week started with an intimate celebration for The Town – held appropriately in a great old former bank. But how intimate can it be with a couple hundred Hollywood-types all trying to get close to Ben Affleck? Next night, first stop was the Showtime holiday party for all of their stars, a homey affair held at a stately private mansion in a neighborhood called Hancock Park. Good food and warm ambiance, but honestly we were in a hurry to get to the glamorous event of the night, the party for Inception. High up above the Sunset Strip at an ultra-modern estate overlooking all of Los Angeles, this indoor-outdoor party (cold night but toasty firepit!) was jam-packed with beautiful people, including of course the man of the hour, Leonardo Di Caprio with his director Christopher Nolan (who wishes everyone would stop asking him what the ending of Inception means).

But the Fox holiday soiree on night three was the most lively of the week. Crowded around the rooftop swimming pool of a small boutique hotel in Beverly Hills, Anne Hathaway joked about her latest gig co-hosting the Oscars. “Someone asked me recently which was harder, hosting Saturday Night Live or getting naked for Love & Other Drugs, and now I think that hosting the Oscars is as nerve wracking as hosting SNL naked!” Danny Boyle talked about early rehearsals for his London stage production of Frankenstein and I tried yet again to take another self-portrait with Darren Arnofsky. Hard at work in Hollywood. Ha ha ha…
