Justo a tiempo para el Día de Muertos
Desde la fiesta de The Walking Dead en LA.
No hay nada como manejar por un cementerio obscuro y ventoso, con los rayos de una luna casi llena colándose por entre las tumbas… es un alivio llegar al mausoleo donde se lleva a cabo la fiesta. Ah sí, y también tenemos a los tipos “medio muertos” y cubiertos de sangre que se dirigen hacia ti. O sólo hacia mí, en este caso. ¿Perturbador, no? ¿Acaso soy yo la carne humana que desean?
Me encuentro en la premiere de la nueva serie de AMC –en México Fox la transmitirá FOX–, The Walking Dead, cuya fiesta post-proyección se organiza en el camposanto histórico Hollywood Forever Cemetery, donde se encuentran los restos de personalidades que van de Rudolph Valentino a Cecil B. DeMille, Johnny Ramone o el gángster Bugsy Siegel. Es una locación perfecta para recrear la Atlanta post-apocalíptica en que sucede el programa, donde reinan los zombies asesinos y sólo sobrevive un puñado de personas saludables que intentan descifrar la manera de sobrevivir en ese mundo infértil y desolado. La adaptación es de Frank Darabont (director de Sueño de fuga), basada en el cómic de Robert Kirkman y en su reparto se encuentran Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jon Bernthal y Laurie Holden.
Después de caminar a través del aterrador mausoleo –en el camino me tomé un trago Zombie–, me topé con el área posterior, decorada como si fuese un “campamento de supervivencia humana”, con autos viejos, tiendas de campaña, sillas plegables de lona y una parrilla en donde asaban costillitas que prepararon para que tuvieran pinta de fémures humanos. Una máquina de neblina creaba una atmósfera inquietante y un DJ nos ofreció canciones como “Monster Mash” y “Thriller”, que se desvanecieron en la noche.
Just in time for Day of the Dead…
There’s nothing quite like driving through a dark and windy cemetery with a near full moon lighting the real-life tombstones… so relieved to finally see lights and arrive at the party mausoleum. Oh yeah, then there’s the part about those blood-spattered “undead” guys staggering towards you. Or me, in this case. Eerie, huh? Am I the human flesh they hunger for?
This is the premiere of AMC’s new series, The Walking Dead and after-party at the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery – where everyone from Jayne Mansfield to Rudolph Valentino to Cecil B. DeMille to Johnny Ramone to gangster Bugsy Siegel are buried. It’s a perfect location to re-create the post-apocalyptic Atlanta, backdrop for the show, where killer zombies troll and only a handful of healthy people remain and are trying to figure out how to survive in this barren, desolate world. Created by Robert Kirkman and adapted by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), the series stars Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jon Bernthal and Laurie Holden.
After walking through the spooky mausoleum – and picking up a Zombie cocktail on the way, the grounds out back were decorated as a “human survival camp” with old beat up cars, tents, canvas camping chairs, and an outdoor grill serving saucy ribs meant to look like femur bones while a fog machine created creepy atmosphere and a DJ spun tunes like Monster Mash and Thriller on into the night.
