¿Es graciosa Salma Hayek?

Regresando a su papel como la esposa de Adam Sandler
en la sorpresivamente chistosa secuela Grown Ups 2, de Sony Pictures,
que se estrena este verano, Salma Hayek se sentó con nosotros para platicar del
filme, sobre cómo es ser una mujer madura y sobre su sentido del humor. Todo se
dio en una hermosa tarde en Cancún. “Siempre he sido una comediante de clóset”,
me dice riendo. “Siempre es importante tener humor en mi vida. Cuando estoy con
estos cuates siento que esa parte de mí es bienvenida y celebrada y siento que
estoy en casa. Son un gran equipo en el que todos quieren que los demás
brillen. Los comediantes tienen la reputación de ser todos bipolares o una onda
así, pero no son así, para nada. Te regalan chistes, te dan espacio para que
hagas tus propias bromas y se celebran los unos a los otros, así que es un
ambiente relajado y disfrutable”.

¿Y siente que ya es una mujer madura? ¿Qué significa
esa etiqueta?

“Creo que hay un momento en el que estás en tus
treintas, cuarentas o cincuentas en el que piensas que no eres adulta y al
mismo tiempo estás confundida. Parte de ti siente que debes de ser madura y
otra que no lo eres. Hay una parte de mí que en serio no sentía ser una adulta
sino hasta que me casé y tuve hijos. Entonces pensé que mi carrera había
terminado. Pensaba que únicamente trabajaría de vez en cuando para divertirme.
Tengo 46 años de edad, soy una mexicana que vive en Francia. Digo, ¿qué tanto
más puedo trabajar? Pero por alguna razón que desconozco, esta año nos llegaron
muchísimas ofertas para proyectos…. Son tantas que entramos en pánico tratando
de decidir cuáles hacer y cómo organizarme ya que ahora no tengo tiempo para
hacer películas porque estoy enfocada en mi familia. Así que ya madura, a los
46 años, tengo todas las cosas que soñé y nunca tuve. Estoy escogiendo cosas
extrañas e interesantes que no había elegido antes porque por primera vez tengo
de dónde seleccionar. Además me están ofreciendo roles protagónicos… hasta
ahora siempre era ‘la chica’ pero nunca había tenido mi propia película excepto
en Frida que yo cree para mí misma. Es fantástico, porque todo mundo
dice que no hay papeles para mujeres y que no puedes trabajar después de que
cumples 46 años. Pero quiero decir lo siguiente: ¿saben qué, chicas?, nada es
imposible, todo puede pasar en cualquier momento con tu carrera, tu salud o tu
vida, y eso me emociona. Me alegran las películas pero también el hecho de que
es poco usual y desearía que los demás se percataran de que le puede pasar a
cualquiera”.

Así que, queridos lectoras, ¿qué tipo de papel
protagónico creen que sea bueno para Salma?

unexpectedly hilarious Grown Ups 2, which opens this summer, Salma Hayek sat
down to talk about the film, about being a grown up, and about her own funny
bone – on a beautiful Cancun afternoon. “I’ve always been a closet comedian,”
she laughs. “In my life it’s always very important to have humor. And when I’m
with these guys I feel like that part of me is welcome and celebrated and I
feel a little bit at home. They’re a great team of people who want everyone to
shine. Comedians have this reputation that they’re all like Bipolar or
something and they’re not like that at all. They give you jokes, they give you
space to make your own jokes and they celebrate each other in that way so it’s
a really nice relaxed working environment.”

Does she feel like a “grown up” and what does that mean
anyway?

“I think there is a place like when you’re in your thirties,
forties, fifties where you think I am not grown up and then at the same time
you’re confused – parts of you feel like you’re supposed to be a grown up and
parts of you feel like you’re not. And there is a part of me that
really didn’t feel like I was a grown up until I got married and had children.
And then I thought my career was over. I thought
pretty much, you know, well, I’ll work for fun here or there. I am 46, Mexican
living in France. Come on, how much more can I work?  But for some reason which I have no idea why, for the first
time in my life I am beginning to have the opportunities I’ve ever had before.
This year we had so many offers for projects that right now we are in a panic trying to figure out which ones to do and how do I manage it since of course now that I don’t have time to do movies because I have to focus on my
family. So all grown up at 46 I have all the things I dreamt and I never got. I’m making some very strange,
interesting choices that I didn’t make before because for the first time I
actually have some choices. And they’re offering me leading roles – until now I
was always like ‘the girl’ but I never had my own movie except for FRIDA that I
created for myself. This is great because everybody says oh, there are no parts
for women, you don’t work after 46. And I want to say, You know what, girls, nothing it’s impossible, anything can
happen to you at any given time in your career, in your health, in your life
and this excites me. I’m excited for the movies but I am also excited because
it’s unusual and I hope that other people see that it can happen to anyone.”
