Bradley Cooper, tubos para el pelo y el Oscar

Cuando vi a Bradley Cooper en su
penthouse en Nueva York hace unos días, él lucía muy diferente al agente del
FBI de los 70 que interpreta en American
Hustle. Sobre todo porque desde que terminó su papel, ya no se está
poniendo tubos en el cabello. “Para hacer a Richie me tuve que enchinar el pelo
todos los días”, dice riendo. “Fue una hazaña de unas tres horas diarias. Creo
que llegamos a unos 110 tubos y luego 50 minutos bajo la secadora. Y como yo
tenía que estar despierto desde las 4 de la mañana, a veces me quedaba dormido
y terminaba con un lado enchinado y el otro no. Tengo que admitir que sí me
gustó el pelo chino. Me encariñé mucho con él. Lo extrañé cuando me lo
quitaron. Me gustó, el cabello oscuro, chino, con barba, sí”.

El 2013 ha sido un año emocionante para
Cooper, pues empezó con una nominación al Oscar por su actuación en Los juegos del destino. Y ahora que American Hustle ha sido incluida en
muchas listas de lo mejor del año y ya tiene un premio de los Críticos de Nueva
York, aparte de siete nominaciones a los Globos de Oro (incluida una para él),
es posible que se vuelva a topar con otra mención en los Óscares. “Fue
increíble”, dice. “Yo diría que lo que más me gustó fueron las memorias que
hice esos dos meses. Y Daniel Day-Lewis fue el punto más alto. Luego de estar
con él en varias ocasiones, al final por fin encontré el valor para hablarle. Y
lo mejor fue que todos nos juntamos un día antes de la ceremonia. Yo, Robert
DeNiro, Daniel y nuestras familias y nos tomamos fotos y nos fuimos juntos a
los Óscares. Fue increíble”.

¿Eso le quitó el mal sabor de boca a
perder? “Ni siquiera lo veo así. Fue un privilegio perder  contra él”.

American
Hustle es dirigida por David O. Russell y también
es protagonizada por Christian Bale, Amy Adams y Jennifer Lawrence.

Bradley Cooper looks a lot different from his 1970s FBI guy
in American Hustle, when we meet up in a penthouse in New York a few days ago –
mostly because he isn’t putting curlers in his hair anymore since that role is
finished. “For Richie, I curled my hair every morning,” he laughs. “It was about
a three hour ordeal every morning, I think we counted 110 curlers, and then 50
minutes underneath the dryer. I would fall asleep, because I would have to get
up at 4 in the morning, so I would fall asleep against the dryer, so then one
side would be like really curled and the other side wouldn’t be. I have to
admit I liked the curly hair. I grew very fond of that. I missed it when it was
gone. I really dug it, dark curly hair and a beard, yeah, I loved it.”

2013 has been quite a ride for Cooper, kicking off the year
with an Oscar nomination for his performance in Silver Linings Playbook. With
American Hustle making so many critics’ Top Ten list, already winning the New
York Film Critics’ movie of the year and getting seven Golden Globe nominations –
including one for him – he might just find himself on that Oscar ballot for a
second time.    “It was
amazing,” he says. “I would say my favorite thing about it was the memories I
got to log for those two months. And Daniel Day Lewis is the highlight,
probably being able to be in those rooms with him, and finally at the end of
the run got the courage to talk to him. And my favorite things is that we all
got together before the day of the Academy Awards, me and Robert De Niro and
Daniel and then we all got together with our families and then took photos and
drove to the Oscars together, and that was unbelievable.”

So that took away the sting of losing? “I don’t even see it
like that. It was a privilege to lose to him.”

American Hustle is directed by David O’Russell and also stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence.
