Considered one of the hottest stars on the Hollywood
horizon today, coming into the awards season finale week – how does Chris
Pine prepare for the red carpet? Does he like dressing up?

“For many years I have worn Ralph Lauren, simple,
elegant…”

The same suit or different versions?

“The same suit? (laughing) Yeah, the same suit. (laughs)
No, not the same suit.  Armani I think has great elegance and clean lines
and I am much more a fan of simple, old school elegance than like my friend
Quinto, who can pull off these crazy Dior, new designer stuff that just does
not look good on me. And I am very particular about how it fits in the
shoulders and the body, I get into it, I really enjoy it quite a bit.
And little details like pocket squares and cufflinks and pinky rings and stuff,
cause when you go on the red carpet, it’s not the real world, you are at
work, so I kind of like to make believe that’s a different time. And that makes
the whole red carpet experience easier.”

So what are the other aspects of fame that make you
uncomfortable, or as the press likes to label you, a reluctant movie star?

“I mean, reluctant movie star sounds so pretentious, I
get so sick of hearing about it, whenever I talk about it, clearly it comes
through. It just sounds so lame, like we have all heard it before. I just think
at my age now, what I thought I wanted perhaps twelve years ago unconsciously
probably doesn’t serve me anymore, and I think I originally I got into this
business for really nothing else than validation and people telling me that I
am good or handsome or whatever, and you get caught up in that game and it’s
just really so empty and here I am, whatever, twelve years later, thank God
I have had a fair amount of success for my age and it’s just kind of a matter
I think of for me, changing trajectories and going at the business in a
different way, because the fame aspect of it, I don’t think it actually,
ultimately pleases me, makes me all that happy I can enjoy it, but it doesn’t
feed me I don’t think.”

With what’s coming up for the reluctant heartthrob, he’d better
get used to the limelight, because the Star Trek and Jack Ryan: Shadow
Recruit star is soon to be even more famous for his roles in Joe Carnahan’s
comedy action thriller Stretch, Horrible Bosses 2, and Robb Marshall’s fantasy
musical Into the Woods, opposite Johnny Depp.
