La alfombra roja estaba teñida negro y cubierta por un toldo de plástico por la lluvia, así que los fans que habían llegado al patio del cine Arclight para ver a sus estrellas favoritas –Jon Hamm, Christina Hendriks, January Jones, Elizabeth Moss, John Slaterry y el resto del elenco que llegó a la premiere de la séptima temporada de Mad Men–, apenas podían hacerlo. Vincent Kartheiser, quien interpreta a Pete Campbell, fue el único valiente que se brincó la barrea y se acercó a la gente para tomarse fotos y firmar autógrafos con los fans encantados.
Todo suena divertido y fabuloso, ¿no? Pero el problema con ir a la premiere de un programa de televisión que amas es que luego hay que esperar varias semanas para que empiece su transmisión. Sí, es genial poder ver el episodio antes que nadie, pero ahora hay que esperar hasta el 20 de abril para ver el segundo episodio. ¿Impaciencia? Absolutamente. Claro que si eres fan del show siempre vale la pena la espera, aunque sea frustrante. Evidentemente no puedo decirles ningún spoiler, pero únicamente digamos que Matt Weiner, el creador y escritor, nunca defrauda.
Adentro del cine, cuando los créditos finales terminaron, el público permaneció callado un minuto entero y nadie se levantaba de su asiento. Como si hubiéramos dejado de respirar porque terminó demasiado pronto y queríamos ver más, queríamos que nunca terminara, nunca. Pero la sombra del inevitable fin del show se aproxima y se sintió sobre todos.
¿Por eso la alfombra roja fue negra? Al final todos empezamos a respirar de nuevo y nos fuimos a la fiesta en el Chateau Marmont a tomar Manhattans (¿qué más?) y brindar por el ‘principio del fin’.

The red carpet was ominously black, and tented with plastic because of
rain, so fans lining the courtyard at the
Arclight could barely see the stars they were there to see: Jon Hamm, Christina
Hendricks, January Jones, Elizabeth Moss, John Slattery and the rest of the Madmen
cast, all turned out for the Hollywood premiere of their 7th and
final season. Vincent Kartheiser – who plays Pete Campbell on the show – was
the only one to brave the weather and the crowd by jumping the barricade to
pose for “selfies” with delighted fans and sign some autographs before heading inside.
It all sounds fun and fabulous, right? But the problem with going to the premiere of a TV series you really love is that then you have to wait weeks for it to actually start airing on television. Yes it was great to see the opening episode ahead of everyone
else, but now we have to wait until April 20th to see the 2nd
episode. Impatient? Absolutely. Of course if you’re a fan of the show it’s
always worth the wait, however frustrating. Can’t give you any spoilers here,
just to say creator/writer Matt Weiner never disappoints.
Inside the theater, when the end credits rolled, there was a full
minute where no one got up from their seats – like we had stopped breathing
because it was over too soon and we wanted to see more, wanted for it to never end, not ever. But the shadow of the inevitable END we all know is coming soon, hung over the theater. Is that why the red carpet was black? And then everyone started breathing again, making a mad rush to the Chateau Marmont after party, to drink Manhattans (what else?) and toast the ‘beginning of the end’…
