If his recent bad boy behavior hasn’t already done the deed, Zac Efron’s role in Neighbors should forever erase that squeaky clean persona leftover from High School Musical, the image he’s been trying to shed for a long time by now. “It was pretty easy to step into this hard-partying character,” laughs Zac of his character Teddy in Neighbors. “I mean, I knew what I was doing, I knew it pretty well. It was pretty easy to snap back into, you know, the party dude mode. Obviously I knew the authenticity of the finer points of what it’s like to be that guy, so I think at that moment I was grateful for having had the experience to draw from.”

The name Zac Efron has been in the tabloids quite a lot in the last few months, and he’s quick to admit that he’s now attending regular AA meetings after two stints in rehab. But it was only a few weeks ago that he made headlines after cops got involved following a late night scuffle that turned violent with some sketchy ‘transients’ in the worst area of downtown L.A. – sparking media speculation about why he and a friend were in that neighborhood in the middle of the night in the first place.  Ephron told the cops they had run out of gas. He says the biggest change isn’t sobriety as much as the fact that he doesn’t take himself as seriously these days. And that’s part of the fun of his shirtless role in Neighbors
