Keanu Reeves regresa a la acción

Habiendo convivido con Keanu Reeves –profesional y personalmente– siempre se me ha hecho una persona muy zen. Incluso en sus películas de acción. Sin embargo, no hay nada de zen en su nueva película John Wick, dirigida por dos ex stunts, Chad Stahelski y Dave Leitch. Todo gira alrededor de la venganza y hay un número altísimo de muertes. Los malos se apoderan del auto de John Wick y su perro, las únicas dos cosas que a él le importan. Keanu se ríe. «Los directores dicen que hay más de 70. Que creen que yo estoy entre las 6 o 7 personas con más matanzas individuales en una película. No estamos en el número 1 o 2, pero creo que somos el 5 o 6 y son como 70. Sí, John Wick es un hombre ocupado. Creo que más que venganza, la cinta es sobre vindicar. Sobre vindicar y retomar algo. O tal vez la venganza se trata de apropiarse de algo, algo que se ha perdido. Es sobre vindicar y luego retomarlo. Pero hay que contar la historia. Estamos aquí para contar una historia, así que eso es lo que hay que hacer. Parte de la diversión es ir a lugares a donde usualmente no vas y esa fantasía es entretenida. Sí, fue divertido hacer a John Wick. Hay algo muy disfrutable sobre ese enojo y violencia. Pero me gusta que al mismo tiempo, eso le causa conflicto».
Estos días, cuando Keanu no está haciendo una película, ha transformado su amor por las motocicletas en un negocio al unirse con una empresa llamada Ace Motorcycles. «Empezamos a vender motos personalizadas hace 6 semanas», dice. «Las puedes ver en Archmotorcycle.com y están geniales. Llevamos preparándolo como 2 años y medio y ya están listas para salir al mundo. Está bien. Me gusta andar en motocicleta. Ahí es donde entra lo zen».

Meeting Keanu Reeves over the years – both socially and professionally,
he has always impressed me as being very Zen – even in his action movie
performances. But there’s nothing much Zen about him in his stylized new movie
JOHN WICK, directed by stuntmen-turned-filmmakers Chad Stahelski and Dave
Leitch. It’s all about revenge and a very high body count.  The bad guys take John Wick’s car and his dog
– the only two things he cares about. Keanu laughs. “The directors tell me it’s
over 70. They think I’m in the top 6 of solo kills in a film. Yeah. So we’re
not like number 1 or 2 or 3 but I think we’re around 5 or 6 and there are about
70. Yeah. John Wick’s busy. And maybe there’s not much of a distinction but I
think of it as avenge rather than revenge. Avenge and reclaim. Or maybe revenge
is about claiming something, something that’s been lost so I feel like it’s
like that. It’s avenging and then reclaiming. You have to tell the story.
You’re there to tell the story so you do what you have to do. Part of  the joy in a part is to go to places that you
don’t usually go and there’s a kind of fantasy to it which is fun. And yeah,
John wick was fun to play. There was something pleasurable about such directed
anger and violence and emotion. But I like that at the same time he’s a little
conflicted.”

These days when he’s not making movies, Keanu’s turned his love
of riding motorcycles into a business, partnering with a company called Ace
Motorcycles. “We started selling custom-made bikes about six weeks ago,” he
says. “You can see what they look like on Archmotorcyle.com and they’re really
fantastic. It’s been two and a half years in development and they’re ready to
go out into the world. It’s cool. Riding a motorcycle is cool. That’s where the
Zen comes in…”
