Las controversias de los nominados

¡Aquí vamos otra vez! 

Arranca el conteo de la última semana para los Golden Globes. ¿Ustedes ven la transmisión? ¿Hacen quinielas con amigos? 

Fue una carrera apretada este año, especialmente con las categorías de Mejor película:

Mejor película drama: Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Selma.

Mejor película comedia o musical: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Pride, St. Vincent.

2 de los contendientes más fuertes han generado bastante controversia alrededor de la veracidad de los actos que presentan. 

En el caso de Foxcatcher, el luchador olímpico Mark Schultz (interpretado por Channing Tatum) primero apoyó públicamente el filme. Luego, en diciembre, público varias quejas en línea tras leer algunas críticas que apuntaban hacia una relación sexual entre él y John du Pont (el personaje de Steve Carell), quien le disparó a su hermano en 1996 luego de contratarlos a ambos para su equipo de lucha libre.  

La controversia sobre la veracidad de Selma. No es la primera vez que se le acusa a una cinta histórica de distorsionar la realidad. Sin embargo, las cuestiones raciales están particularmente sensibles en EUA hoy en día. Los críticos acusan al filme de presentar al expresidente Lyndon Johnson como un impedimento hacia el movimiento por los derechos civiles. Los investigadores aseguran que existen registros que podrían apoyar ambos lados del debate.

¿Esto influirá en la decisión de los votantes en los Globos de Oro y los Óscares? Tendremos que esperar a ver…

Here we are again counting down this week to the 72nd Golden Globe Awards. Do you watch the telecast? Do you do ballots with friends? It turned out to be a tight race this year, especially in the Best Picture categories:

Best Picture Drama: Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Selma

Best Picture Comedy or Musical: Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods, Pride, St. Vincent

But two serious contenders are facing press feeding frenzies over questions about the accuracy of details presented as facts. With Foxcatcher, Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz, who’s played by Channing Tatum, publicly supported the film which won Bennett Miller the Best Director prize at Cannes. But in late December in a series of online rants, Schultz blasted Miller and the film after he read reviews that suggested a hint of a sexual relationship between him and John
du Pont (Steve Carell), who shot his brother Dave Schultz (Mark
Ruffalo) to death in 1996 after hiring the brothers to lead his
wrestling team. 

The argument over Selma’s accuracy is far from the first time that a
historically-themed movie has been accused of blurring the line between
art and fact. But racial issues are particularly sensitive in the U.S. these days, and critics say the film unfairly portrays former president Lyndon Johnson as an impediment to the civil rights movement. Researchers say there are available records suggesting places where
the director and her critics are each right — and ones where each is
wrong.

Will any of this influence the voters for either the Golden Globes or the Oscars? We’ll have to wait and see…
