Artistas y activistas celebran los Derechos Humanos en ‘Desde Aquí’
The Good Lie es una de las películas que formarán parte de la celebración por la inauguración de las oficinas regionales de Amnistía Internacional.
Mientras los superhéroes de Los Vengadores salvan al mundo y destrozan todos los records de taquilla, hay algunas películas más pequeñas que en realidad sí salvan al mundo. O por lo menos lo intentan. The Good Lie, una dolorosa historia sobre ‘los niños perdidos de Sudan’ es una de esas. Pero, ¿que no se estrenó ya esa cinta en el 2014? Sí. Y aunque no recibió el empuje que se merecía, el público la ha encontrado de otras formas (el director ganador del Oscar, Mike Nichols, dijo que era una de las mejores cintas que había visto) y al igual que Diamante de sangre u Hotel Ruanda, el filme ha logrado tener un impacto político.
Ahora, The Good Lie, acompañada de mi amiga Margaret Nagle, quien escribió el guión, ha regresado a la Ciudad de México junto a otros activistas sociales y artistas de nivel mundial para celebrar la apertura de las oficinas regionales de Amnistía Internacional para el continente Americano.
Esta serie de eventos (llamados Desde Aquí) durarán del 4 al 9 de mayo e incluirán debates, conciertos y proyecciones de películas. Todo bajo la temática de algunos de los retos de derechos humanos más importantes a los que se enfrentan millones en el continente hoy en día.
Los artistas musicales incluyen a Lila Downs, Saúl Hernández, Mariana Vega y la pianista clásica Gabriela Montero, quien tendrá una presentación junto a la Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería. El ilustrador Peter Sis pintará un mural junto a activistas locales y las proyecciones de cine incluirán E-Team y Kingdom of Shadows con la presencia de elenco y equipo. Si pueden, ¡vayan!

While Avengers’ comic book super heroes save the world and
break box office records, there are smaller movies out there that really do
save the world, or at least try. The Good Lie, a heart-wrenching story about
the ‘lost boys of the Sudan’ is one of those films. But wait, didn’t that movie
come out already in 2014? Yep it did. And although it didn’t get the release it
deserved audiences are finding it in all kinds of ways (Oscar-winning director Mike Nichols said it was one of the best films he’d ever seen)– and like Blood Diamond
and Hotel Rwanda before it, the film continues to make a political impact
raising awareness for change. And now The Good Lie, accompanied by my pal Margaret
Nagle who wrote the screenplay, has come back to Mexico City, joining social
activists and world renowned artists from across the Americas to mark the
inauguration of Amnesty International’s Human Rights Center in Mexico City.
Happening right now, this week-long series of events through
9 May will include debates, concerts and film screenings touching upon some of
the most pressing human rights challenges facing millions of people across the
Americas today. Musical artists include Lila
Downs, Saúl Hernández, Mariana Vega and the classical pianist Gabriela Montero
who will perform with the Mineria Symphony Orchestra; illustrator Peter Sis
will paint a mural alongside local activists and other film screenings will include E-Team and Kingdom of Shadows with the presence of cast and crew
