La estrella de Rocky al Salón de la fama del boxeo
¿Pero en verdad era necesario?
Esta semana, el excampeón mundial de peso completo Mike Tyson, el actor Sylvester Stallone y el tres veces campeón mundial Julio César Chávez se encontraron en la lista de nuevos ingresos al Salón de la fama del Boxeo.
Se les unieron el peso superligero nacido en Rusia pero radicado en Australia, Kostya Tszyu, el entrenador mexicano Nacho Beristain y el referee Joe Cortez.
Sin embargo, hay voces dentro de la comunidad deportiva que afirman que no todos creen que Stallone debería de haber sido incluido en un grupo de atletas serios que realmente se merecen este honor. 
Cierto, Stallone sabe lo que es no ser el favorito y luchar para llegar a la cima: era un desconocido cuando escribió el guión original sobre Rocky Balboa y luego lo interpretó en la película ganadora del Oscar en 1976. Rocky lo transformó en quien es hoy, pero jamás ha recibido un golpe en una pelea de boxeo real.
“Nunca he pretendido ser boxeador. No poseo esas habilidades”, afirmó Stallone en la ceremonia de inducción. “Lo que sí creo tener, es un entendimiento sobre lo que sucede fuera del ring, donde se presenta a veces una lucha más grande de la que se da en el encordado. Pude capturar eso. Entonces, creo que te puedes identificar más con el peleador. Los boxeadores son los más grandes atletas del mundo. Son nuestra conexión con el pasado y nuestro camino hacia el futuro. Son los que salen y reciben los golpes y nos muestran que si realmente arriesgas todo, eres un campeón. Puede que no seas el campeón del mundo, pero serás el campeón de tu vida”.
En 2006, Stallone recibió el Premio por Trayectoria Fílmica en el Boxeo de manos de la Asociación de Escritores de Boxeo de Estados Unidos. ¿Pero que lo introduzcan al Salón de la Fama?

Silvester Stallone inducted into the boxing hall of fame
This week Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, actor Sylvester Stallone and three-division champ Julio Cesar Chavez were among this year’s class of inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Russian-born junior welterweight Kostya Tszyu, Mexican trainer Ignacio «Nacho» Beristain, and referee Joe Cortez also were inducted.
But there are rumblings throughout the sports community that not everyone thinks Stallone belongs on this list next to serious athletes that have really earned this honor. True, Stallone knows what it’s like to be an underdog and fight his way to the top – he was an unknown when he wrote the original script about Rocky Balboa and then went on to play the title role in the Oscar-winning 1976 film. Rocky made him what he is today, but he’s never taken a real punch in a real boxing match.
«I’ve never pretended to be a boxer. I don’t possess those skills,» Stallone said at the induction ceremony. «What I do think I have is an understanding of what goes on outside the ring. Outside the ring is sometimes maybe an even bigger struggle than what goes on inside the ring, and I was able to capture that. Then I believe that you can identify more with the fighter. Boxers are the greatest athletes in the world. They are our connection to the past and our way to the future. They are the guys that go in there and take the blows and show that if you really put it out there on the line, you are a champion. You may not be the champion of the world, but you’ll be the champion of your life.”
In 2006 Stallone was awarded the Boxing Writers Association of America award for Lifetime Cinematic Achievement in Boxing. But inducted in the Boxing Hall of Fame? Does that mean Robert Redford (The Natural) or Kevin Costner (Field of dreams) should be inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York? What comes next, Mike Tyson getting a Lifetime Achievement Oscar for his role in The Hangover movies? What are your thoughts about this?
