Voy a bañar a Archie y veremos qué pasa’.

Armie Hammer find his inner puppy

Just imagine: You’re an actor, cast opposite one of the biggest movie stars in the world. An icon. A little intimidating, right? But exciting. And then you find out that your very first scene with her, you have to act like a puppy and lick her face. Oh yeah, the actress is Julia Roberts.

Why, you might ask, is he making a fool of himself, licking Julia Roberts’ face? Well without giving too much away (OK we all know the story anyway) a spell has been cast on him and he’s full of “puppy love.”

“Yeah, I have to say playing the puppy love scene was definitely made easier by the fact that I had a puppy at the time,” says Armie Hammer of his role as Prince Charming in Mirror Mirror.  “Archie, my dog who gets really excited after you bathe him, he gets runs around and rolls on the ground. So the night before I filmed that scene, I just thought you know what, I’m going to give Archie a bath and just see what happens and I did and he just ran all over and when he sat he shook and he was so excited and this and that and I thought oh, okay, yeah, I’ll  just act like my dog.”

“But then, the day comes and you’re going into a room to do a scene with Julia Roberts like I mean she’s Julia Roberts, you know.  You don’t even have to say any more but what surprised me the most was how well she knows every single aspect of this business. Like she would say what lens are you putting on there?  Oh, okay, so it would look better if I do this and I’ll do this up a little higher instead so that you can see it or she’ll say what light are you putting up there?  Oh, okay, so it’s better if I’m at this angle. She’s very intelligent, very smart and I think she’s been doing this for so long that she just sort of absorbed it all and she knows how everything works so it’s really amazing watching her be on a set and sort of effortlessly maneuver among all the technical stuff that you have to as an actor and still do exactly what she wants. Everything she does she’s in control of and it was amazing to watch like a true professional do that.”

(Hmmm, he’s still young and green, so that behavior impresses him. To me that sounds like a control freak. Just sayin’…)

NUT LET’S GET BACK TO LICKING ALL OVER JULIA’S FACE?
“Surreal.  It definitely felt surreal.  That was our first day of working together and like our first scene so it was like yes, okay, yes, well, nice to see you, okay.  Ready?  Okay Now I’m going to act like an exuberant puppy and lick your face. Surreal. And embarrassing.”

And by the way, he makes an adorable puppy….
