Carey Muligan se desnuda… literalmente

En el nuevo y muy controvertido filme Shame, del director británico Steve McQueen, Michael Fassbender y Carey Mulligan interpretan a dos hermanos con una relación disfuncional. El crudo material expuesto en el filme y sus muy arrojadas actuaciones –que requirieron de valor tanto emocional como físico– le merecieron a la cinta una clasificación NC-17 en Estados Unidos, debido a los desnudos frontales, que rara vez vemos en actores de primer nivel. Aunque los desnudos son parte fundamental de los personajes y son todo menos gratuitos, resultan impactantes.

Dice Carey Mulligan: “Sí, nunca había considerado hacer un desnudo. Han habido desnudos y escenas de sexo en los guiones que he leído, pero eran proyectos que se alejaban mucho de lo que quería hacer. Pero en este caso, había visto Hunger, el primer filme de Steve (McQueen) y su primera colaboración con Michael, y la manera en que filma los cuerpos en esa cinta es tan anatómica que no resultó sexual. No los quería mostrar de una manera en particular, y definitivamente no de una forma que los haga ver bien o los torne sexuales. Se trataba de retratar mi cuerpo tal y como es. Mi personaje es una mujer exhibicionista y extrovertida, y ése es el tipo de nivel de confort que tiene, así que era lo correcto. Trabajamos en un set de filmación muy pequeño y confiaba en Michael y en Steve. Pensé que me pondría nerviosa, pero no fue así”.

Y luego ríe: “¡Me dio más nervio la escena en la que canto!” .

In the controversial new film Shame from British director Steve McQueen, Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan star as a dysfunctional brother and sister.  The raw subject mater and their very brave performances – not just emotionally but also physically – earn the film an NC-17 rating for the

kind of full frontal nudity rarely seen from A-list actors. While its completely integral to the characters and in no way gratuitous, it’s still a shock.

“Yeah,” says Carey Mulligan. “I’d never considered nudity before. There’d been nudity and sex scenes in scripts I’d read but projects that were just so far from things I was interested in doing. And with this, I had seen Hunger which was Steve (McQueen’s) first film and his first collaboration with Michael, and the way that he shot bodies in that film was so anatomical, it wasn’t sexual. It wasn’t about making them look any kind of way, and I knew that he wouldn’t be shooting my body to look any kind of way, certainly not in a way meant to be flattering or sexual. It was just meant to be my body as it is. She is a character that’s an exhibitionist and extrovert and that;s the sort of comfort level she has, so it felt right. It was a very small set and I trusted Michael, and I trusted Steve. I thought I would be nervous but I wasn’t.”  And then she laughs. “I was more nervous about the singing scene!”
