Desde el Festival de Toronto, 1 (inglés)

Another film festival, another internet nightmare. How hard can it be in this day and age of technology, to keep us festival goers online? But it’s okay, as long as I only check email or send stories between 2 and 5 a.m. it seems to be working. Well, it’s like they say, you can sleep […]

Another film festival, another internet nightmare. How hard can it be in this day and age of technology, to keep us festival goers online? But it’s okay, as long as I only check email or send stories between 2 and 5 a.m. it seems to be working. Well, it’s like they say, you can sleep when you’re dead.

Day 1:

Toronto Film Festival gets off to a rousing start. Opening night, I love RockNrolla and Gerard Butler is hilarious at the party. “Someone brought up an interesting idea that should be pursued, that I should get paid extra for showing my bum. I’m always up for making an extra buck,” laughing. Does he identify with the hustler he plays in the film?

“I’m not saying I was ever a gangster but it’s easy for me to rub shoulders with those guys and not think twice about it. I was a law student, but I also sold irrigation systems, I worked a traveling carnival trying to get people to play the Wacky Wire at the State Fair to win a teddy bear, and then when I was twelve I had a job on the street, trying to get people to buy rolls on a Saturday morning. I’ve had my share of hustling – look at me here, right now!” .

Day 2:

The Secret Life of Bees and the delicious Burn After Reading. Of course Brad Pitt’s presence on the red carpet brings out hundreds of screaming fans, and the after party is pulsating, but at the lowkey Bees reception you can actually talk, as well as eat some tasty southern cooking too!

In my room now, late and waiting for the internet that never comes, I wish I had just one more piece of that southern fried chicken…
