Sin poder quedarme hasta el final del festival, este es mi último blog de Sundance del año, una reflexión de lo que me hubiera gustado ver, lo que me perdí y lo que faltó.

Unable to stay till the end of the festival, this is my final Sundance blog of the year – a reflection on what I wished I’d seen, what I missed and what was missing.
The films I regret not seeing include Derick Martini’s LYMELIFE (1970’s suburban drama/coming of age story starring Alec Baldwin, Rory and Kieran Culkin, Emma Roberts, Cynthia Nixon); THE MISSING PERSON (modern film noir starring Michael Shannon, Amy Ryan); AN EDUCATION (a festival favorite directed by Lone Scherfig from a Nick Hornby script, starring Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Thompson, Carey Mulligan); AMREEKA (A Palestinian family’s journey into American culture from first time director Cherien Dabis); and MOON (a futuristic space travel story directed by David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones, and starring Kevin Spacey, Sam Rockwell.)
But what I really wish I’d seen happened as I was driving down the mountain to Salt Lake City airport. Opinions always fly at Sundance, but fists – not so much. It seems that legendary producers’ rep Jeff Dowd (a big sloppy guy most famous for being the inspiration for The Dude in THE BIG LEBOWSKI) got literally punched out by Variety critic John Anderson (no relation of mine I swear!) over a difference of opinion about the agit-prop political documentary DIRT that Dowd is representing. Witnesses say there was no blood drawn, but in a year when the festival is most note-worthy for lack of action, it’s nice to hear that passion can still run high.
Most notably missing this year are the crowds, so here’s hoping the rest of the festival picks up and some unexpected little gems will emerge. Its what Sundance does best.
