El twitter de Simon Pegg y su Paul
A más de un año de twittear.
Simon Pegg es más chaparrito de lo que imaginaba. Por alguna razón, incluso si no ha dicho nada, no puedo dejar de reír. Acabo de ver su película, Paul –sí, creo que tienen que esperar hasta el verano, esta fue una proyección adelantada– y la verdad es que es CHISTOSÍSIMA, tiene un humor buenísimo para adultos. “Creo que Twitter es una gran herramienta –afirma–. Es una forma interesante de desmitificarte a ti mismo, al menos en cierta medida, porque en términos periodísticos puedes: a) rechazar los rumores y b)quitar un poco del misterio. En mi caso, hablo mucho sobre mi perra. No escribo sobre mi familia. Mantengo lo real en secreto”.
Pero una mascota SÍ ES FAMILIA. “Sí, mi perra es mi familia. Y no le importa si escribo sobre sus paseos y cosas así. Ella quiere ser una estrella. De hecho, la empujo para que lo haga. También aparece en el filme (Paul). Hasta ahora la he metido en tres películas. Se convertirá en una luminaria. Pero sí tweeteo mucho. Particularmente cuando estoy en el set, pues espero por periodos largos de tiempo. Y mientras sigas siendo interesante y no te autopromociones demasiado está bien. Es lo que he hecho últimamente, y así cuando dices ‘Vean este trailer’ la gente prestará atención. Es un medio nuevo interesante”.
¿Acaso ha visto los resultados cuando conoce a fans que también lo siguen en Twitter? “Es gracioso –ríe–. Lo que es raro es que Twitter es como tener un cerebro de accesorio. A lo que me refiero es que puedes preguntar lo que sea y recibes miles de respuestas. Es bueno si tienes muchos seguidores. Pero sí, he conocido a gente que me sigue”.
Bueno, pues yo te sigo…
“Cuando dijiste eso, pensé: ‘Ay, Dios, ¿qué me has visto decir?’. Es que a veces posteo cosas muy ridículas. Es algo muy interesante, pero aún es emergente. Pero es una gran manera de comunicarse”.

Simon Pegg is smaller than I thought he’d be. For some reason, even when he hasn’t said anything, I can’t stop laughing. I’ve just seen his movie Paul – yeah, you have to wait for summer I think, this was an advance screening – and it’s HILARIOUS, grown up funny. "I think Twitter is a great resource," he says. "It’s an interesting way of de-mythologizing yourself, slightly, because it means in terms of journalistic in you, if you’re there to a) refute rumors and b) rake away some of the mystique. Me, I talk about my dog a lot. I don’t talk about my family. I keep the real stuff secret."
But dog IS family. "Yeah my dog is family, And she doesn’t mind if I talk about her walks and stuff. She wants to be a star. In fact I’m very pushy with her. She’s in the film (Paul) as well. I’ve got her into three films so far. She’s going to be a star. But I do tweet a lot. Because, particularly on a set, I’m hanging around a load of the time. And as long as you keep it interesting and don’t over-self-promote, which is what I’ve been doing a of lately, then when you want to say ‘Hey watch this trailer’ people will pay attention. It’s an interesting new media."
Has he seen the results when he meets fans who also follow him on Twitter? "It’s funny," he laughs. "What’s really weird is that Twitter is like having an accessory brain, in that you can ask anything and you’ll get thousands of answers back. It really suits if you have lots of followers. But yeah I have met people that follow me."

"When you said that, I thought, ‘Oh God, what must you have seen me say?" Because I tweet the most ridiculous things sometimes. It’s a very interesting new thing that’s still very emergent. But it’s a great way of communicating."
