Jason Segel no es un freak
Vera Anderson habló con el hombre encargado del nuevo boom Muppet.
“Al menos ahora cuando llevo a una chica a mi casa y ve mis marionetas, puedo decir que es por mi chamba, ¡y que no soy un tipo creepy con una casa llena de títeres!”, afirma Jason Segel.
El actor recuerda que no tenía trabajo y creía que hacer una película con marionetas salvaría su carrera. Cuando evalúa el pasado, ríe: “¿Qué estaba pensando?”. Fue una trama secundaria divertida en Cómo sobrevivir a mi ex, pero ahora su sueño de toda la vida se torna realidad. Segel es la mente maestra tras la nueva película de los Muppets. Promovió el proyecto por años y escribió el guión junto a su socio, Nick Stoller.
“Hubo un momento de preocupación en que pensaban que estaba realizando este proyecto con un sentido de ironía”, dice. “Como si estuviera cerrando un ojo y diciendo: ‘Qué ternura, Jason Segel, el vulgar, hará una película de los Muppets y se burlará de ellos’. Pero en cuanto llegamos al set y todo mundo se dio cuenta de que no era el caso, y que todo salía de un lugar muy genuino, verdadero, pues todos se subieron al barco muy rápido. En cuanto a realizar una película para niños que también es para adultos, creo que una de las cosas lograron muy bien las películas originales de los Muppets es que no son condescendientes con los niños, no hacen las cosas como si los pequeños fueran tontos y tuvieran que rebajarlo todo al nivel más bajo. Cuando te abstienes de hacer eso, obtienes como resultado un filme familiar en toda la extensión de la palabra. La familia entera se puede sentar a verlo y disfrutarlo."
"El peor equivalente es el dinosaurio Barney: los papás tienen que plantarse a verlo con los niños, y los papás quieren suicidarse. Esto será el opuesto exacto. Creo que los papás se reirán tanto como los chiquitines. Incluimos chistes dirigidos a los niños y chistes que van directo para los adultos, de los que los pequeños ni se enteran. Es algo que hacen muy bien Los Simpson. Se da algo muy especial cuando una familia se sienta a disfrutar algo, unida, y ése era nuestro objetivo”.
Jason Segel is not some creepy guy…
“At least now when I bring a girl home and she sees my puppets,” says Jason Segel, “I can say its for my job, I’m not just some creepy guy with a house full of puppets!”
Segel recalls being out of work and thinking that making a puppet movie would save his career. Looking back, he laughs, “What was I thinking?” It was a funny subplot in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but now that lifelong dream has come true. Segel is the mastermind behind the new Muppets movie, having pushed the project for years and written the script with his partner Nick Stoller.
"I think maybe there was a moment of wariness that I was doing this with a sense of irony,” he says. “Like there was a wink-wink about it, ‘Oh, cute. R-rated Jason Segel is going to do The Muppets and make fun of it.’ But as soon as we arrived on set and everyone saw that that wasn’t the case, that this was coming from a very genuine and true place, we were all on the same team very very quickly. As far as making a film for kids that’s also for adults, I think one of the things the original Muppet movies did amazingly well is that they don’t condescend to children by feeling like they have to dumb things down to the lowest common denominator. And when you don’t do that, you get a family film in its truest sense. An entire family can sit and watch and enjoy it. The worst equivalent is Barney the dinosaur where parents are having to sit there while their kids watch this and the parents want to blow their brains out. This I think is going to be the exact opposite. I think parents are going to be laughing as hard as kids are going to be laughing. We have jokes geared toward children and we have jokes that are geared specifically toward adults that go right over a kid’s head. It’s something that The Simpsons does as well. There’s something very special about a family sitting down to enjoy something together — that was our goal."
