Pertenecen a la misma generación de chicos malos de Hollywood: Charlie Cheen y Keifer Sutherland nacieron a mediados de los sesenta de dos padres jóvenes que resultaban ser las estrellas rebeldes de aquella era. Nos referimos a Martin Sheen y Donald Sutherland. Así que Charlie y Kiefer crecieron con los privilegios y sentimiendo de merecerlo todo que les brindaban las posiciones liberales y creciente fama de sus padres. No es sorprendente, entonces, que como actores jóvenes hayan batallado tanto con el abuso de sustancias como con la ley.
La diferencia es que Sheen parece incorregible en la actualidad, y se convirtió en una caricatura de su personaje en Two and a Half Men. El actor hace chistes sobre sí mismo, elucubrando sobre cuánto tiempo pasará antes de que vuelva a caer en los vicios. Este tipo de comportamiento no lo retrata como un actor redituable. Todo lo contrario sucede con su amigo Kiefer, quien salió de su visita a la cárcel tan determinado como su personaje de Jack Bauer en 24, decidido a volver a encarrilar su vida. Actualmente protagoniza la nueva versión de Broadway de The Championship Season (actualmente se encuentra en funciones de pre-estreno e inicia temporada el 6 de marzo), y esta semana firmó para protagonizar una nueva serie de Fox llamada Touch, que trata sobre un padre que descubre que su hijo mudo y autista puede predecir el futuro. El actor también tiene una serie de diez episodios que se transmitirá por Hulu a partir de marzo. Nos referimos a The Confession, que trata sobre un sicario que le expone a un sacerdote interpretado por John Hurt las razones por las que sus víctimas merecen morir. Hurt y Sutherland también aparecen juntos en Melancholia, una película de ciencia-ficción dirigida por Lars Von Trier y en la que también actúa Kirsten Dunst (se estrena a finales de la primavera). Y si eso no fuese suficiente como para mantenerlo ocupado, los rumores en Hollywood apuntan a que el guión para una cinta basada en 24 se encuentra en las últimas etapas de desarrollo.
Le deseamos lo mejor a Charlie Sheen en su esfuerzo por mantenerse sobrio. Pero qué piensan, ¿creen que al fin se porte bien? ¿Y qué hay de Kiefer, están listos para 24: La película?

They belong to a certain generation of Hollywood bad boys, Charlie Sheen and Keifer Sutherland, born in the mid-sixties to Martin Sheen and Donald Sutherland, young dads who happened to be the rebellious male stars of the day. So Charlie and Kiefer grew up with all the privilege and sense of entitlement that their fathers’ liberal views and growing fame afforded them – and it was somehow no surprise that as young actors themselves they each struggled with substance abuse and the law.
The difference is, Sheen just seems incorrigibly hell bent these days, having become a caricature of his Two and a Half Men character, with self-mocking jokes about how long it might be before he falls back off the wagon – not the kind of behavior to deem him bankable. Not so his old friend Kiefer , who came out of his stint in jail as determined as 24’s Jack Bauer to beat the odds and put his life back on track. Currently starring in the Broadway revival of That Championship Season (in previews now and opening March 6th), this week Sutherland has signed to star in a new Fox series called Touch, playing a father who discovers that his mute, autistic son can predict future events. The actor also has a 10-episode web series launching on Hulu in March called The Confession this year, starring as a hitman who tells priest John Hurt why his victims deserve death. Hurt and Sutherland also appear together in Melnacholia, a sci fi movie with Kirsten Dunst that opens in late Spring. And if that’s not enough to keep him busy, gossip in Hollywood indicates that the script is getting close to ready for the feature film based on 24.
