"No, sin drogas, ya no. Sabes, casi me mataron la primera vez. Fui un adicto durante mucho tiempo y aunque una vida de crack y heroína tiene aspectos disfrutables, te lleva a lugares muy peligrosos. Por ejemplo, encontrarás que la mayoría del crack y la heroína son vendidas por indeseables, y eso no es divertido. El sexo, por supuesto, hecho con moderación, es relativamente inofensivo, pero si intentas llevarlo al nivel del circo chino, puede ser un problema. ¿Y rock’n roll? El sólo hecho de ser Russell Brand es un trabajo de tiempo completo, pero tiene beneficios muy buenos. Soy un narcisista –dice riendo–. Bueno, mis fallas y debilidades creo que son bastante sincrónicas y alineadas con la era en que vivimos, pero tengo un sentido de propiedad fuerte, me han complacido y cuidado, he recibido un exceso de cosas materiales, cosas que te seducen y te envuelven en la ilusión de la fama, así que a veces me tomo a mí mismo demasiado en serio. Puedo llegar a creer que mis objetivos personales son más importantes que los objetivos de todos como personas. Además, soy muy cachondo. ¿Eso no es una falla o sí? Pregúntale a mi prometida. “I would often pretend to be a rock star in the mirror as an adolescent so it’s a great privilege to enact this fantasy,” says the British stand up comedian, deadpan – but you know there’s a zinger coming, there is always a zinger coming. “Many of my other mirror fantasies will never be acted out in public. They’re dangerous.”
Like sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll?
“Not drugs, not again. You know, like it almost killed me the first time. I was a drug addict for a long while and while there were enjoyable aspects to a life of crack and heroin addiction, it takes you into very dangerous places. For example, you’ll find mostly that crack and heroin is dealt by undesirables, and that’s no fun is it? Sex of course, done in moderation, is relatively harmless but if you try and take it to the level of the Chinese State Circus, it can be problematic. And rock’n’roll? Just being Russell Brand is a full time job but there are excellent perks. Ich bin ein narcissist,” he laughs. “Well, my flaws and frailties I think are fairly synchronistic and in alignment with the age in which we live – but I have a sense of entitlement, I’ve been indulged and pampered, like being given excessive material things, things that seduce you and inveigle you in the illusion of fame, so sometimes I take myself a little too seriously, I can think that my personal objectives are more important than the objectives of us as a people. Also I’m very randy. That’s not a flaw is it? You tell that to my fiancée. [singer Katy Perry].”
