Con su perrito Luna en brazos, Teresa Palmer nos platica sobre sus dos nuevas películas: Take Me Home Tonight y Soy el número cuatro.
“Era tetísima en la primaria”, afirma. “No fue sino hasta la prepa que comencé a hacer amigos. Fue un periodo raro para mí: creo que cuando te estás convirtiendo en un adulto joven, no sabes muy bien quién eres o cómo encajas en el mundo, y te sientes perdida. Recuerdo haberme sentido así a esa edad: estaba probando cómo era ser diferentes versiones de mí misma. Aún sigo en esa travesía, pero cuando eres más joven te encuentras en un lugar que da miedo. Creo que Take Me Home Tonight realmente afronta esa situación”.
El rol de una mujer joven lidiando con su inminente madurez y todo lo que esto implica parece muy alejado del personaje Number 6, la guerrera alienígena que interpreta esta actriz australiana en Soy el número cuatro. “Definitivamente estaba fuera de mi zona de confort –asegura–. Este rol realmente me hizo ir al siguiente nivel y trabajar duro para transformar cada una de las partes que me hacen ser quien soy. Es muy osbcura y calculadora y callada, y yo soy todo lo apuesto. Soy brincolina y animada y abierta, algo mucho más cercano a mi personaje en Take Me Home Tonight”.
¿O sea que es una fiestera incansable?
“¡No,no!”, ríe. “Bueno, definitivamente no lo soy ahora. Pero sí pasé por una etapa rebelde cuando era puberta. Recuerdo que un día organicé una fiesta en una casa de mi papá cuando tenía 16 años. Era una propiedad que él tenía como inversión y no había muebles, y decidí organizar una fiesta ahí a fin de año. Llegaron unos colados y terminamos siendo 1,000 personas y la casa terminó incendiada. Sé que no es chistoso, pero no fue mi culpa. Era una niña inocente de 16 años que tuvo que lidiar con los colados. Pero obviamente mis padres no estaban muy felices que digamos”.

With her little dog Luna in her arms, Teresa Palmer wants to talk about her two new films, Take Me Home Tonight and I Am Number Four.
“I was such a total dork in primary school,” she says. “It wasn’t until high school that I even started to make friends. It’s just a weird period of time, I think when you’re becoming a young adult you don’t know much about who you are or how you fit into the world, and you’re very lost. I remember feeling like that at that age, I was trying out different versions of myself. I’m still going on that journey now, but when you’re younger that’s a scary place to be. And I think Take Me Home Tonight really touches on that subject.”
A young woman struggling with burgeoning adulthood and all that that implies seems a far cry from the Australian actress’s kick-butt alien warrior Number 6. “I was definitely outside my comfort zone,” she says. “This role really made me have to step up to the plate and work hard to transform every part of who I am. She’s very dark and very calculated and quiet, and I’m the total opposite – bouncy and lively and open, much closer to my character in Take Me Home Tonight.”
So does that mean she’s a party animal?
“Oh no!” she laughs. “Well, I’m certainly not a party animal now. But I definitely went through a bit of a rebellious stage when I was a teenager. I remember having a party when I was 16 years of age, at my dad’s house. It was an investment property and there was no furniture in the house, and I decided to throw a party there at the end of the year. It got gate crashed by these boys and ended up with 1,000 people showing up and the house got burnt down. (laughing) I know it’s not funny, but it wasn’t my fault. I was just this innocent 16-year-old that got gate-crashed. But obviously my parents weren’t too happy with me.”
